There are natural treatments for Restless Leg Syndrome that you can turn to, other than the use of conventional drug treatments. It is a condition that can cause you to feel depressed and exhausted because you are not able to sleep well. Although drugs can help you alleviate your symptoms and give you a more restful sleep, they are by no means a cure. Developing a dependence on them can also cause harm to your body. Natural treatments for Restless Leg Syndrome can provide a safer approach to finding relief.
Herbs are known to help. The herb, Astragalus, is said to balance and improve the function of the body's organs, by increasing blood circulation and boosting the absorption of iron. This in itself is an important step, as iron-deficiency has been shown to cause Restless Leg Syndrome symptoms. One natural herb is used in LegCalm. LegCalm is used to treat Restless Leg Syndrome and Periodic Limb Movement. In fact, this particular herb has been used in Chinese Medicine for years.
Another natural treatment for Restless Leg Syndrome, widely used in Europe is known as Butcher's Broom, or Ruscus Acluteatus. Butcher's broom can help improve circulation, relieving pain and discomfort.
Horse Chestnut, or Aesculus hippocastum, is used for healthy blood circulation in the body, and has been used in Europe for years because they are beneficial for vein health. As always, it is important to use herbs carefully as they can be potent and can affect each person differently.
Zinc is used for many things, especially for boosting the immune system. Zinc, in the case of Restless Leg Syndrome, can aid in the absorption of minerals such as iron to help prevent deficiencies, in addition to having a calming ingredient.
Magnesium Phosphate is essential in maintaining the body's level of Magnesium, as a deficiency is known to be a cause of Restless Leg Syndrome. Magnesium also is very helpful when used for the relief of spasms, muscle contractions and twitching.
Researchers say that the Restless Leg Syndrome came about because the pathways from the brain that control the movements are not working, and hence letting impulses through, making it difficult to rest. A supplement called, 5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan), can be consumed to help increase serotonin in the brain that affects sleep. However, not every patient gets immediate results. Some experience improvements almost rather quickly with taking 5-HTP, while others report taking a longer time.
Night Time Leg Calm has also been used successfully to ease the symptoms of Restless Leg Syndrome and Periodic Limb Movement. Night Time Leg Clam is a special blend of essential oils, such as grape seed oil and a blend of lavender, rosemary and ginger. It helps to reduce inflammation and calm your nervous system. It is recommended that you apply it directly to the skin, specifically to the lower back and the muscles surrounding the affected part. It is also safe to reapply the oil if necessary. Another use for Night Time Leg Calm is that it can also be used during the day for those with symptoms of "Restless Arm Syndrome". For this, just massage it into the neck and muscles that are strained. Published by Sandra Kim Leong on February 10, 2008 06:55 PM
